Abstract
Pakistan and China’s relationship on Afghanistan is critical to the region’s stability and security. This examination explores their shared concerns, differing approaches, and strategies in the evolving landscape. Their cooperation is driven by security interests, economic potential, and the desire to enhance their influence. Despite historical ties with the Taliban, Pakistan shares China’s concerns about its resurgence and Afghanistan becoming a haven for extremism. Both countries are committed to preventing destabilization from spilling over into their own territories. Beyond security, Pakistan and China eagerly capitalize on Afghanistan’s economic potential, particularly regarding natural resource investment and infrastructure development under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Both nations also seek to enhance their influence in Afghanistan and the broader region. This research aims to investigate the significance of Pakistan-China cooperation on Afghanistan, examine the challenges posed by the evolving situation in Afghanistan, find out the strategies employed by Pakistan and China to safeguard their interests in Afghanistan, and analyze the impact of the changing dynamics in Afghanistan on the broader regional balance of power, considering the roles of Pakistan, China, and other regional actors.
