Abstract
The foreign policy of Russia experienced significant instability in the years after the Cold War and how to incorporate it into the Western system by maintaining the Russian legacy. The foreign policy of Russia is influenced by a complex interplay of historical legacies, shifting global dynamics, and domestic interests. This article focuses on analyzing the significant geostrategic policies of Russia in the 21st century under the influence of President Vladimir Putin which he used to make Russia a great power in the world. The main objective of Russian geostrategic policies was to regain control in Near Abroad, post-Soviet republican territories to project its power to the Europe and whole world. Hence, Russia is using different means and acting offensively to counter the influence of NATO or EU in the post-soviet Eurasian region, as in Crimea and Ukraine, part of Eastern Europe. In this way, this study will also contribute to learning about the geographic and geostrategic significance of Crimea and Ukraine for Russia. The article also analyzes the historical claims of Russia on Near Abroad states, its struggles for achieving ontological security, and international recognition of a superpower. A descriptive approach is used to analyze and describe the Russian grand geostrategy by exploring the different parameters of Russia and President Vladimir Putin's interests, values, and security in implementing these policies.
