The current sordid existential realities of Postcolonial Africa States have continued to escalate over time as a result of governance challenges buffeting these countries which have sunken deeper in the mesh of poverty, underdevelopment and corruption. The inability of African governments to change the course of development in their countries are traceable to the disinclination of African ruling elites to dislodge the dependency structures emplaced by colonialism because of their selfish interests. This situation accounts for Africa’s uncritical compliance with the policy dictates of globalization which have turned the continent into mere producers of primary commodities and worsened its socioeconomic and political crises despite its abundant natural resources. Already, seven African states have relapsed into military dictatorship and a lot more countries in Africa could tow that line in not too distant future, if African governments remain incompetent, corrupt and unable to assuage the economic problems of their citizenries. The expansionist drives of some new age emperors which comprise China, Russia, India, and the Western world with the United States as its leader, could constitute real danger should these powers decide to replicate the Berlin conference of 1885 when European powers portioned Africa among themselves with no remarkable resistance from Africa. Sadly, Africa’s current state of weakness could inspire its recolonization.
Key Words: Colonization, Colonialism, Globalization, Governance, Corruption
